Best Place to Live on the California Coast

The term “best place” is all relative and even Forbes magazine and Money magazine from CNN only refer to crime rates, school ratings and job growth. But really, where is the best place to live along the California coast? It’s all relative and it’s all opinion based and your opinion is the one that matters if you’re considering moving to the California coastline.Best place to live on the California coast

Because I deal with the San Diego County area which is located in Southern California I can focus on homes from Carlsbad down to San Diego and Chula Vista which offer a variety of beautiful coastal cities such as La Jolla, Del Mar , Oceanside and Encinitas. In amongst these major cities are several smaller communities, suburbs and subdivisions of San Diego. Beautiful beachfront estates, high-rise condominiums, and beachside bungalows are all available in a variety of these coastal cities.

But to really get a sense, I’ve pulled together a variety of resources and reviews to find the best place to live along the southern California coastline.

Encinitas is sometimes called Southern California’s unsung paradise with beautiful coastal beaches, exquisite views and sunsets, and a paradise unmatched anywhere in San Diego County. Encinitas makes a great suburb of San Diego as is Cardiff by the sea which provides coastal and inland peel along the old coastal Highway business district which lends itself to small town charm.

If you’re a young professional looking for a business venture the La Jolla and University area is an excellent place to consider building your roots. It’s a great walkable neighborhood, close to the beach and within walking distance to shops, restaurants and trendy coffee houses.

The Poway neighborhood had has a variety of very affordable homes, townhomes and condominiums for sale starting at about $300-$400,000 and can range as high as 6 million depending on how luxurious you’re looking to live. Rancho Bernardo is also a great community for golfing and retirees.

Some of the best suburbs according to about.com is Chula Vista one of the second largest cities in the County and a variety of new suburbs and subdivisions consisting of a lot of new construction. The La Mesa area has everything that a small town could want and makes it so appealing yet you’re just minutes from downtown in amongst good schools and old neighborhood character.

If you’re planning to staying North of San Diego County the Carlsbad area is ideal but not so much if you’re planning on working in downtown San Diego since the commute is 30 minutes at the quickest.

This is just a small sampling of what I and many feel are some of the best places to live on the southern California coastline.
