In addition, the San Diego Symphony will perform music from American composers Leonard Bernstein (overtures from West Side Story and Candide) and George Gershwin (An American in Paris).

DAVID FOKOS: OPENING RECEPTION

“The Book Pages Project” is an homage to books. Real books. Books with covers and dog-eared corners, books with pulpy paper and yellowing pages. Musty smelling books fading into history. It is an appreciation of the book’s physical form -- the fonts, the layout, the ink, the printing, and to the art of their authors and the contribution they have made to our culture. Exhibit runs February 5 to April 3.

BRAZIL CARNIVAL MARDI GRAS BALL

A Mardi Gras party with samba beats, capoeira performances, and lots of sequins. The winner of the Samba King and Queen contest gets a trip to Rio de Janeiro.

CIRQUE ZIVA

After a sold-out show in 2015, more than two dozen Golden Dragon Acrobats will again take the stage with juggling, acrobatic, and contortionist performances -- 14 gravity-defying acts.

FEBRUARY 6

RESTORE NATIVE HABITAT

Help manage invasive plants in Mission Bay to protect endangered birds. We will be working to remove invasive plants from Stony Point. We’re doing this to promote nesting by the California Least Tern (an endangered species) and create space for native coastal dune plants.

Meet on the west side of Fiesta Island in Mission Bay. Park along the fence with the entrance gate to the dog park. Enter through the dog park and continue walking west with the water and sand berm on your righthand side. Continue west through a second fence until reaching San Diego Audubon CA Least Tern Nesting Site signs. Info: flaherty@sandiegoaudubon.org or 858-273-7800 x106.

  • When: Saturday, February 6, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
